Task force will investigate outcomes for Black pupils

Brent Council has established a cross-party task group to investigate the issue of disappointing outcomes for certain Black African and Caribbean pupils.

A detailed new report will be published by the council on 4 December showing that specific nationalities are achieving well at school, while other cultural and ethnic groups are over-represented on measures such as school exclusions, teenage pregnancies and youth offending.

The report has been produced by Brent Council’s Children and Families Department and will include an action plan, which is already being implemented by Brent Council, looking at ways of supporting and empowering young people.

This new report provides the most detailed information available for any London borough showing academic, economic and health outcomes for Black Caribbean and Black African pupils. The report also identifies consistent academic success by certain African groups including Ghanaian and Nigerian children, who do particularly well throughout primary school.
