The Devil Wears Prada..for Meryl Streep of course!
Archie Kalyana is a freelance TV Producer/Director, who recently developed the new BBC promo 'This Is What We Do'.
Who is your media hero?
There are no heroes in the Media!
I like and respect driven, charismatic, ambitious people who show they have the balls to take risks.
Why did u get into media?
I was always a bit of a TV boff. From the moment I picked up a camcorder as a youngster I knew I'd found what I really wanted to do. It was an endless round of filming for one family get together after another. TV has got to be the most energetic and exhilirating career to follow. It's an honour to work with your sporting, showbiz and musical heroes. I never thought a gal from Brum like me would be lucky enough to film with people like Nancy Sinatra, Gary Linekar, Jonathan Ross and Shekar Kapur.
What would you be doing if you weren’t in media and why?
I'd probably be working in Sport in a PR/Community based role. It's something very close to my heart.
Where would you like to be in ten years time?
I'd like to be the first Asian Female Director of Sport at the Beeb (Ooooh eyebrows will be raised!)
Achievements
Producing content for the new BBC 'This Is What We Do' TV Promo
Producing 'Sports Unsung Heroes' for BBC Sport / The Community Channel
Teaching DV skills/Programme making skills to BBC staff
Producing promo films for 'SportsAid' and 'London Youth Rowing'
Future Goals
To really make a name for myself in sport. I'm passionate about sport and get upset desis whinge about not seeing more Asian faces in the Premiereship / Olympics, etc. We need to ditch that attitude and push youngsters to get out there and get involved. I hope to get involved in coverage of the next Commonwealth Games and of course the 2012 Olympics. My long term ambition is to be the first Asian Director of Sport at the BBC.
Hobbies
Football - I play once a week at the Mile End training facility set up and run by West Ham FC.
Watching football - I follow Aston Villa religiously. I get some strange looks in my local bar when I'm the only person wearing the shirt and cheering.
I love Indian history and have a healthy obsession with the Moghul era - I'm convinced I lived it in a past life.
