This year will see the launch of the first annual Black Entertainment, Film, Fashion, Television and Arts Awards, popularly known as the BEFFTA Awards. Founder Pauline Long has worked tirelessly within the media to ensure the ceremony receives the high profile it deserves. She says: “To be able to honour all these personalities in entertainment, fashion, film, television and arts in one night, under one roof is a great initiative. I think an award of this calibre is due. We have so many stars in our community that the rest of the world needs to know about. We are not just going to honour A-list celebrities or top earners, but most importantly we are going to honour the undiscovered great talent in the industry who are often ignored.”
The award ceremony will be hosted by TV personality and Choice FM radio presenter Richard Blackwood and talented young comedian Miss London. Among the nominees are TV entrepreneur Levi Roots, award-winning comedian Kojo Mante, award-winning Jazz musician Yolanda Brown, X-Factor sensations Leona Lewis and Alexandra Burke, film star Noel Clarke, DJ Trevor Nelson, models Jasmia Robinson, Ibukun Jegede and Naomi Campbell, celebrity photographer Bukola Garace, fashion designer and entrepreneur Samata Angel, beauty queens Rachel Christie and Andelle Chileshe, fashion designers Gavin Pierre Medford, Tina Atiemo and George Dyer, Black Beauty and Hair Magazine, Pride Magazine, and more.
