Lone parents in Newham find out how to get into work at Summer fun day

Lone parents in Newham enjoyed a fun day out with their children courtesy of local employment service Reed in Partnership.

The event, which took place at Stratford Park on Saturday 21st August, had a variety of activities for lone parents. Visitors learned about Reed in Partnership’s Single Parent’s Programme, which has placed 492 lone parents from Stratford into work since 2000.

The Fun Day was a success, with many lone parents receiving advice on how to get into employment, as well as information on domestic violence and housing issues.

Employment advisor Samantha Stevens explained, “We understand the barriers and difficulties that stop lone parents going into work and we offer support and steer lone parents to the right organisations that will be able to help them.”

She continues: “we also offer financial support for clothes, childcare and travel costs so that they can attend interviews or training courses and having events such as fun days assists to raise awareness and provide information, advice and guidance in an informal way.”

Reed in Partnership also launched its Lone Parent’s competition in which there is a free prize draw for everyone who signs up on the Lone Parent’s Programme in Newham between 23rd August and 23rd September, where four different prizes, including a laptop, will be won over the four week period.
