Local pupil teams up with Newham council to warn about dangers of drug driving

An anti-drug driving information leaflet designed by 13-year-old Khushboo Patel has been chosen by Newham Council’s Road Safety Department to front a future campaign raising awareness of the dangers of drug-driving.

The Forest Gate Community School pupil, who beat entries from across the borough to win an ipod Nano, said that she entered the ‘Lethal Mixture’ competition because she wanted young people in Newham to understand why drug-driving is dangerous.

Khushboo, who plans on studying science and becoming a doctor to help those with drug and alcohol problems said, “People don’t realise what drugs can do to their health. Some people take drugs thinking that it will only be the once but they can then become addicted.”

Newham Safety Education Officer Carla Lowe explained that “Khushboo’s entry will be the launch-pin of the campaign as she will be informing her peers of the consequences of drug driving.”

Khushboo will now work closely with Newham Council to develop her ideas further.
