Dealing WIth Conflict, Training for Youth and Community Workers,

Dealing with Conflict – a teaching and educational resource modeled after the work in the internationally renowned peace village Jewish – Arab charity British Friends of Neve Shalom~Wahat al Salam.

The British Friends of Neve Shalom ~ Wahat al Salam are happy to announce a great opportunity to learning about Dealing with Conflict using the model used in Neve Shalom ~ Wahat Al Salam, the famous Jewish / Arab peace village and conflict transformation centre.

Our educational Resource Pack “Dealing with Conflict” introduces a convenient and challenging method used in the conflict transformation centre (mainly for young adults) School for Peace, which is based in the village of Wahat-Al Salam ~ Neve Shalom, Israel, one of the first pioneers in Arab / Jewish relations since the 1970s, and still the only successful community in Israel and Palestine where Arabs and Jews live together by choice. It also houses the first successful primary school teaching Arabs and Jews at the same time and in both languages, together.

Dealing with Conflict is an ideal resource to think about conflict through a famous international example and then take it back to whatever issues a target community faces.

The pack has been originally developed for the use with young people and citizenship education (the package is fully tied in), yet we receive demand to also include youth workers, community leaders, especially those in areas where there are conflicts based on different identities, languages and religions and unequal power dimensions. It suits also inter-faith, and inter cultural, as well as intra religious, and intra cultural work.

We are offering conflict insights, including activities, and games, and an entire educational resource, ready for use, in its entirety or partially. The resource also includes a full chronology of the Israeli / Arab conflict separated with interpretations from an Israeli and from a Palestinian point of view.

Later in October and November we will run similar courses aimed at school teachers.

In fact several workshops will run in in the UK (subject to kind funding by an independent trust) and if you are interested in having the training in your area get in contact.

For London we run a training day on the 15th of July 2008, 09.00 – 17.00 at the Conference hall of the Sion Centre for Dialogue, with a follow up about six to eight months later. Our trainer will be Susan Denton Brown, a former Head of Religious Education, conflict facilitator for Neve Shalom ~ Wahat al-Salam, and trainer for the Gandhi foundation.

This series is being piloted and funded (by an independent charitable trust) as a UK wide initiative, and participants will be able to benefit through new contacts from areas in and outside of London.

Much more in depth information is available on our website (select Conflict Education).

Costs: £70 Full rate, £50 concessions, including a £20 teaching manual, an optional academic book about the methods of the School for Peace is available at £15.

For any questions about the training, Neve Shalom ~ Wahat al Salam or regarding bookings for the 15th of July, or arranging training in your area, feel free to contact us.

With kind regards
