Head of News at the BBC Asian Network
Kevin Silverton has been a journalist in the BBC for more than 15 years. Having started in commercial radio in Bournemouth and Preston he then became News Editor at BBC Radio Nottingham, before spending 6 years as Deputy Editor at BBC Radio 1 Newsbeat and 1Xtra News. He’s been in his current role as Head of News at the Asian Network since 2008. His achievements include rejuvenating the news output of the station, which has included introducing an extra half hour news programme each day and boosting the output of original stories from the Asian community. Asian Network stories are now heard around the BBC and beyond on a regular basis. During his tenure the station’s news and current affairs output has been nominated for four Sony awards, with the Nihal discussion show winning Gold this year.

Amit Roy is a professional journalist with a varied career in the British & Asian print media. He began as a cub reporter in local and regional papers, before moving to The Daily Mail (under the editorship of Sir David English) where he covered various international stories, including the Falklands War & a long tenure in Iran; He was then poached by The Sunday Times, under Andrew Neil’s tenure, where he covered many news stories, (such as the Rushdie Fatwa) and compiling the first ever, ‘Asian Rich List’. Currently working for The Daily Telegraph, his beat covers ‘news’ and ‘Special Interest Reports on India. Alongside this, he has written regularly for The Telegraph, Calcutta, reporting UK stories to readers back in India. His regular column, ‘Eye on England’ is followed assiduously by readers and other lifestyle and entertainment journalists. He has also been writing a weekly column for Eastern Eye.
