Youth Minister Honours BTWSC

Brent South MP and Minister for Young Citizens & Youth Engagement Dawn Butler honoured some of the youths who participated on BTWSC’s It’s Cool To… Recycle project by presenting them with certificates and copies of the project’s DVD on recycling at her Christmas party in the House of Commons.

During the October half-term break, a number of youths worked on creating a DVD. The project was funded by Brent Council’s Harlesden Neighbourhood Working. It engagingly highlighted one of the Harlesden ward’s priorities: recycling.

Earlier in December, the youth’s efforts had got the thumps up when the short documentary, which mixed facts, a specially commissioned rap song, and a spot of humour, was premiered at the end of project event at Unity Centre. The audience included Harlesden councillors Janice Long and Lincoln Beswick MBE.

Then just before the month ended, the project participants were invited to the House of Commons, and presented with certificates and copies of their DVD by Ms Butler. For many of them, this was their first time at the seat of British political power. The snowy day did not dampen their spirit, especially as the visit had given them an opportunity to widen their horizons.
