The nominated artists were announced on Friday 27th October at WOMEX (World Music trade fair) in Seville, Spain. The nominees have been voted for by the delegates of WOMEX. The Album of the Year category is decided by a world panel of critics organised by fRoots Magazine and voting for the final category, the Audience Award, opens on January 1 2007.
The winners will be announced on 31st March 2007 on BBC Radio 3’s World Routes programme and the Winners’ Concert will be held on Sunday 27th May 2007 at the Barbican in London, when the winner of the Audience Award will be announced. The concert will be broadcast on BBC Radio 3, on BBC Four and will be available online.
Past winners of The BBC Radio 3 Awards for World Music include many of the greatest figures in World Music – such as Mariza, Khaled, Manu Chao, Nitin Sawhney, Ry Cooder and the late Ibrahim Ferrer.
