Rhoda Wilson celebrates International Women’s Month with Barbara Campbell

Rhoda Wilson celebrates International Women

The month of March is significant for many things, the beginning of Spring, Mother’s day, the period of Lent and over the years it has become recognised as International Women’s month. It is a month marked to acknowledge women all over the world, for all their achievements and successes throughout the year. However as Rhoda and many women around the world know it can take a lifetime to achieve great things as a woman. One of these women is Barbara Campbell and renowned journalist and editor with a career spanning 2 decades.

Barbara Campbell is the founding editor of three multicultural magazines LIVE Listings, International Women’s Month and Black Heritage. Barbara’s career began in 1994 when she was offered a job as a journalist by The Voice Newspaper whilst still a student studying journalism. She became editor within two years of working with the organisation, a testament to her talent as a journalist. She has freelanced with several mainstream publications including The Independent on Sunday, Girl About Town, The NUJ Magazine and Black Media Journal and The Guardian.
Barbara decided to start her first publication, Live Listings, when she realised that the job market had limited potential for her; she was headed in a new direction and had a passion to start a publication with a difference; something unique and fresh. She cashed in her life insurance when banks would not fund her and launched her Award-winning publication, after identifying a huge gap in the market for people of varied nationalities to learn of events happening in their communities. With this in mind she was able to create a magazine that has been at the forefront of ethnic minority media ever since.

As a woman with so much determination and drive things were not always easy for Barbara – but she did not allow herself to be kept down by perceptions or restrictions. Almost 10 years on Barbara has never looked back; winning numerous awards and accolades. Rhoda Wilson will be interviewing Barbara on her life achievements and plans for the future in what will be a tribute to any woman who has ever strived for the best and never settled for less.
