MediaGuardian Ethnic Media Summit 2008

MediaGuardian Ethnic Media Summit 2008

The MediaGuardian Ethnic Media Summit will be held on Tuesday September 16 at Bafta, 195 Piccadilly.

The profile, power and influence of the minority ethnic population in Britain is changing fast. Soon ethnic minorities – taken in their totality – will constitute more than a third of the entire population of the UK, boasting a disposable income in excess of £32bn. Despite this, few media organisations are taking the necessary steps to attract, retain and engage ethnic minorities, both as consumers, audiences and as employees, resulting in the loss of profitable markets and a general climate of exclusion and misrepresentation.

The launch of the MediaGuardian Ethnic Media Summit reflects the growing need for the media industry to re-engage with ethnic minorities in the digital age. With contribution from top level speakers, the summit aims to provide solutions to the challenges facing today’s businesses and wider media sector in terms of minority engagement. The aim of the day is to debate best practice and reassess ways in which the media industry can better serve ethnic groups by cultivating and investing in ethnic talent, content and business know-how.
