Channel Punjab, is operated and promoted in the UK by Channel Punjab (UK) Limited. It will commence transmission in the UK on Tuesday 5th September 2006 and will be uplinked from London through the Eurobird satellite. Channel Punjab is headed by the highly respected Ranjit Singh Derewal and his family.
The first event will be the Media Launch Party, which will take place at the renowned Moor Park Golf Club, Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire, on Wednesday 30th August at 2pm. The party will be hosted by Neelu Kalsi who is the presenter of the Punjabi show on BBC Asian Network. Also attending will be Piara Khabra MP and a number of high profile guests.
The arrival of Channel Punjab is seen as an important milestone for the Punjabi community. It is the first time ever that the community has had such a TV channel available to them in the UK and the channel is unique in offering 100% Punjabi programming. Interest from both the public and the business communities has been phenomenal since details of the channel were released last month.
The channel’s official launch party will be held at the International Convention Centre in Birmingham on the evening of Tuesday 5th September, the first day of transmission. A
drinks reception at 6-30pm will kick off a star studded evening of food, fun and entertainment. Performers include celebrated dhol player Gurcharan Mall with his band “Dhol Blasters” and singers as well as Channi Singh who is the renowned founder of the first UK Punjabi band “Alaap”. The evening will officially mark the arrival of this important new channel. With many well-known faces present, the party is set to be a night to remember.
Channel Punjab will give the Punjabi community their own platform that gives a true image of the Punjabi people.
Programming will include entertainment of interest to all ages and generations, covering Culture, Drama, Religion, Comedy, Sports, History and Family Values. The channel’s programming content is unique and offers the viewer a true insight into all of the above titles. As an indication of the uniqueness of the Channel dramas will be shot on Digi-Beta
format for the first time in the history of Punjabi television.
Channel Punjab is aimed at all Punjabi’s whether Sikh, Hindu, Muslim, Christian or Gujarati as well as other Punjabi speaking religions.
Channel Punjab will be transmitted on air from mid-morning on Tuesday 5th September and can be found under Sky Guide Number 826 on the International Genre.
