Can a Muslim superhero change the world?

Marvel Comics launch of a new female Muslim superhero Ms Marvel aka Kamala Khan can only be applauded.

In times where young impressionable muslim girls are being groomed as wives for IS fighters – its great to have a new role model that young muslim girls can look up to.

Kamala Khan is a smart teenage Pakistani girl from Jersey City who has dreams of changing the world. Her parents originate from Karachi and she has traditional roots but is really just a typical American teenager trying to fit in.

Kamala joins the ranks of a small group of Muslim superheroes including Dust – aka burqa wearing Sooraya Qadir who Marvel introduced shortly after 9/11.

It’s important that young people especially girls have positive fantasy role models that they can relate to.  The comic book medium is a great medium to engage young minds with positive messages that aim to tackle the problems of social injustice and ensue essential virtues like honesty and freedom.

We’ll we can’t wait for there to be a movie.. I wonder who would play the role?
