In less than 30 days, the 41 year old of York Road, Ilford will compete alongside his wife Kulvinder and a team of four others on behalf of the cancer awareness and detection charity Roko Cancer.
Gurpal, who has competed in the London Marathon and the Dubai, Mumbai and Delhi marathons alongside the charity’s Global Ambassador Kulwant Dhaliwal says: "Roko Cancer is very close to my heart. In providing grassroots support to vulnerable people in communities who simply don’t talk about the illness, Roko Cancer has encouraged people to open up which has meant older individuals in particular are now discussing a disease which causes great anxiety."
Gurpal’s support joins that of the Attorney General Dominic Grieve who earlier this year described Roko Cancer as a charity that is ‘punching above its weight’.
Gurpal met the MP – a keen champion of Roko Cancer – during a Supporters Thank You at the House of Commons in April 2014.
He now hopes Ilford will get behind him on a day which will unite the capital as thousands of runners take to the streets for their designated charities.
The race will begin at the Bomber Command Memorial and then take in several of London’s key iconic landmarks including Horse Guards Parade, St Paul’s Cathedral, the London Eye and Westminster Cathedral.
And as a special treat, the organisers have laid on complimentary physio and sports massages for each participant. Says Gurpal’s wife Kulvinder: "It’s definitely an incentive to reach the finishing line!"
