England Women’s Indian Summer

There is now less than a week to go before England’s women kick off their series against India with a NatWest International Women’s Twenty20 at Derbyshire CCC.

The 14-strong squad are currently at Uppingham School playing 50-over and Twenty20 warm-up games against various opposition in the run up to the tour. With three debutantes and Holly Colvin, the Sussex spin sensation, who took three wickets against the Australians last summer at Hove, as well as Claire Taylor, one of the best batsmen in the world and new captain Charlotte Edwards, one of the most prolific run-scorers in the women’s game, the team contains a great blend of youth and experience.

The Indians are recognised as the second best team in the world following their performances in last year’s World Cup where they lost to Australia in the Final, so the forthcoming series promises to produce some exciting matches and should be a well-fought contest.

Following the Twenty20, the squads head to Grace Road, home of Leicestershire CCC for the first of two npower Test matches, with the second one at Somerset CCC from August 29.

The NatWest Women’s Series will be sandwiched between the two npower Tests, with the opening game at Lord’s offering free entry to everybody. It will be the first time England will have played at Lord’s in five years and the first time ever for the Indians. Edwards said: “The highlight of the tour will undoubtedly be our opening one-day international at Lord’s which will be an amazing experience for the whole team. Walking out onto the pitch at the Home of Cricket is something every player dreams of so for it to become reality is brilliant, not just for us but for the Indians as well.”

The remaining four NatWest one-day internationals take the team to Shenley, Arundel and The Rose Bowl for the last two, televised live on Sky Sports.
