Dundee FC and Dundee United FC were represented at the launch event in the Ardler Complex, Bobby Mann and Scott Robertson from Dundee FC and Steven Robb and Christian Kalvenes from Dundee United FC. The players attendance is testimony to the clubs’ ongoing commitment towards the eradication of racism from our football grounds and our society.
Both clubs, along with every other professional football side in the country, will take part in our weekend of action, on October 21/22, as part of FARE’s (Football Against Racism in Europe) annual protest condemning racism in all forms. The Arab Trust were also present at the launch, the Arab Trust giving great support to Show Racism the Red Card initiatives ever since it’s introduction to Scotland three years ago.
The anti racism workshops, taking place at a number of Learndirect centres in the city, will be based around Show Racism the Red Card’s “A Safe Place” video, which focuses on the treatment of asylum seekers and refugees. In this specially commissioned film top Premiership players, including Ashley Cole and Thierry Henry, and children affected by these issues, speak frankly about their own personal experiences.
Educational co-ordinator Gerry Britton stated, “The workshops are an excellent opportunity for Show Racism the Red Card to spread it’s anti racism message to the young people of Dundee”.
