Cricinfo 3D (www.cricinfo.com/3d) introduces a superbly authentic online animation of the live action. Every ball of the series will be animated in a 3D virtual environment, resulting in a ball-by-ball visualisation that closely resembles the actual events from the game.
Play can be viewed from any angle. Users can watch the action from the perspective of the batsman, bowler or umpire, or choose their own angles using the camera controls on the 3D window.
Cricinfo 3D is linked to the site’s live scorecard coverage, and will also include automated statistics – wagon wheels, pitch maps and batting partnerships.
Andrew Hall, Cricinfo’s global Head of Product, said that the new animation facility represented another major first for the site: “Online sports coverage is highly dynamic and constantly evolving, so we are very proud to be the first site to deliver cricket animation of this quality. If you can’t be at the match or watching on TV, this is a realistic and entertaining alternative. We intend to roll this new product out to cover most international matches in the near future.”
In another exclusive online coup, cricinfo.com will feature Monty Panesar’s Diary, a weekly column from England’s exciting new spin talent as he travels around Australia. As well as his personal diary, Monty will record audio interviews after each of the five Ashes Tests, bringing Cricinfo users the latest news, views and insights direct from the England dressing room.
And with the time difference between Australia and England making it difficult to follow all of the action live, cricinfo.com is providing a series of services designed for the morning after.
The site’s users will also be able to watch a daily Ashes video news report – sponsored by VW Touareg – and an audio report by former Australian skipper Ian Chappell. A Cricinfo 3D replay of a key event during the day’s play will be available, and an overnight email service containing score updates, reports and comment on the day’s play, will be sent out after every day’s play. All these services are available at www.cricinfo.com/ashes.
Sitting alongside the site’s excellent, in-depth editorial, statistical and picture coverage, these innovative new features complete an unrivalled Ashes package, making cricinfo.com’s coverage the most complete of any website.
