VADM Centre for Ethnic Minority Mental Health

VADM Centre for Ethnic Minority Mental Health

VADM Centre for Ethnic Minority Mental Health was incorporated in May 2008, and registered with the Charities Commission in July 2008, to provide an ethnocentric primary mental health care service to minority ethnic people who fear/worry about using statutory mental health services in the London Borough of Lambeth.

Minority ethnic people continue to be over represented in the mental health care system, and worry about approaching statutory services for fear of being detained under the Mental Health Act. Unfortunately, psychological problems become severe and substantial when minority ethnic people do not seek help and support at the earliest opportunity. Therefore, VADM CEMMH was set up to provide a mental health helpline, information and advocacy, counselling and psychotherapy, education, and research services to minority ethnic people living or working in south central Lambeth; and hence, to reduce the number of minority ethnic people becoming so ill that they need to be detained under the Mental Health Act.
