Make a fresh start and quit smoking on No Smoking Day

This year’s No Smoking Day – 14th March 2007 – will be the biggest ever, with over 2 million smokers expected to give up on the Day ahead of the smokefree legislation coming into force.

Smoking rates among the Asian community smoke significantly more than the general UK population. These extra high smoking rates make the Asian community significantly more vulnerable to illness and death as a result of their tobacco use.

Vishnee Sauntoo, Campaign Manager of the No Smoking Day charity, says: “Stopping smoking is the single best thing a smoker can do for their health. No Smoking Day is the ideal opportunity to quit smoking. Smokers who quit are lucky to have access to world class stop smoking services as well as helplines in a number of Asian languages.

“Smokers should begin their countdown to No Smoking Day now by contacting their local stop smoking service for free and effective help.”

Smokers can look forward to these benefits when they stop smoking:

• More money: giving up 20-a-day is like a £35 a week pay rise! Stop on No Smoking Day and by June you’ll have saved over £400!

• Feel fitter: within two weeks of stopping you’ll finally be able to run for the bus without a coughing fit!
