The travel, tourism and property forums, sponsored by ALITALIA, I Grandi Viaggi, Italia! Magazine, Homes Overseas and Real Estate TV, will be hosted by Martin Roberts from ITV’s “Wish You Were Here” and BBC’s “Homes under the Hammer”. The forums will be presenting and discussing key issues for buying in Italy, how to make the rental market work, relocation issues and how to set up a business in Italy. For those looking for an insight into the travel and tourism aspects of Italy there will be talks on Discovering Italy with I Grandi Viaggi, the Italian Tourist Board and Paul Pettengale, editor of Italia! Magazine, who will also be reminiscing on his food and art travels. Always popular at Blendon Communications events, overseas property auction specialists Direct Auctions will also be presenting live property auctions that will be taking place over the weekend.
La Cantina – the wine area – will be celebrating the renown of Italy’s fine wines with over 30 producers and distributors. There will be over 20 wine seminars, talks and tasting sessions on offer, held under the expert supervision of Livio Italiani, Head of the Italian Association of Sommeliers in the UK and General Manager of Marco Pierre White’s Luciano Restaurant. Livio, along with renowned Wine Master Charles Metcalfe, the UK’s leading wine expert, will give visitors the opportunity to learn about the basics of Italian wine, native grape varieties, selecting wines to accompany food and what to look for in a wine – with plenty of tasting opportunities.
The Lagostina sponsored La Cucina Caldesi – the cookery theatre – will be presenting and sampling traditional Italian dishes hosted by Giancarlo and Katie Caldesi, stars of the popular BBC 2 series- Return to Tuscany – which is back on the small screen in September. On stage they will be presenting starters, new ways with pasta, vegetarian ideas, traditional mains and scrummy desserts. There will also be appearances from a number of popular chefs and for cooking enthusiasts there will be demonstrations on “mozzarella” making. La Cucina sponsors, Lagostina, are the ultimate in Italian cookware, the ‘Ferrari of stewpots’.
IL Palco – the main stage – sponsored by FIAT – will provide an interesting mix of Live Italian performances. Why not start the day at the show with an Italian language lesson, followed by an Italian theatre performance and then be entertained with fashion shows for the family – including the new season’s range from Bimbo.
Opera singer Juliette Pochin, who has worked with Julian Lloyd Webber and Sir Elton John as well as writing and producing Katherine Jenkins’ gold-selling album, Premiere, has now released her own album, ‘Venezia’, and will be performing daily, along with singers from the Sferisterio Opera Festival and the “Fondazione Pro Musica & Arte Sacra”. The theatre performances staged by STUDIO III of Eduardo De Filippo’s ‘Filumena Marturano’ will be taking place every afternoon, along with folkloristic events brought by Regions of Italy,
L’ Angolo Della Cultura, coordinated by the Italian Cultural Institute, will host book signings, art lectures by Charles Harris, language lessons and a selection of trailers from the latest Italian films in association with the Italian Film Festival in the UK.
There will also be a fantastic selection of dining venues – chic Obika, which has outlets in London’s Selfridges together with Milan, Rome and New York, will be serving their signature mozzarella dishes together with their famous light and utterly delicious classic ‘antipasti.’ For something more substantial the Giancarlo Caldesi hosted restaurant – La Cucina Caldesi – will be serving up a mouth-watering selection of their Tuscan signature dishes. While the ice cream shop – the “Progetto Tiramisu” will be the biggest and the slickest in town, offering a host of traditional flavours and delicious, freshly made Italian ‘gelati’.
