A local African restaurant is to appear in a national television show next week. The African restaurant Biazo located in Hale Lane, Edgware will feature on the show Breaking into Tesco to be shown on Channel Five on Monday 17th March 2008. The show follows the cooking journeys of twenty ambitious cooks all hoping for a chance to get Tesco, the supermarket with an annual turnover of £46 billion, to stock their own individual food recipes.

Biazo features in the series when one of the contestants Nina comes to the restaurant to try out her ideas for a Nigerian influenced food. Filming over two days, the contestant spoke to restaurant owner Kemi Olukoya about ideas for creating a vegetarian Nigerian dish, something quite unique and different to popular Nigerian food.

“It was quite an experience contributing to such a popular show and be able to suggest ways of appealing to different palettes” says Kemi Olukoya. “We had the camera crew in the restaurant over two days while we worked with Nina on creating her special recipe. The whole atmosphere was so lively; it was like the restaurant turned into a live TV studio overnight. Guests to the restaurant were interviewed by the show on what they thought about our efo elegusi stew (a spinach and ground melon seed stew cooked in pepper sauces and palm oil) and we were able to share some of our African culture on the show. It’s exciting to be part of a national show. We wish Nina and the other contestants all the very best and we hope viewers will get a sense of Africa when they see Biazo on the show. “

Breaking into Tesco featuring Biazo African Restaurant will air on Monday 17th March 2008 at 9pm. Find out more about Biazo at www.biazo.co.uk
