Situated alongside the Odeon multiplex cinema, this flagship £700,000 Masala Jak’s is a 3500 sq ft, 120-seater restaurant featuring a live, open-plan kitchen.
Mr Majhu said, ‘With all our existing brands – Ashoka, Ashoka Shak, Kama Sutra and Spice of Life – now well established and proving more popular than ever, I felt that the time was right to introduce a new type of Indian restaurant – something completely different.
‘Inspired by the TGI Friday’s dining concept, Masala Jak’s aims to attract families and others searching for a quality, fresh meal as part of an evening out at the cinema or other leisure activity. And, unlike most Indian restaurants, it features a comprehensive range of traditional ‘back-on-the-bone’ cooking with plenty of curry and rice options as well as a mouth-watering Thali menu.’
In addition to providing diners with breathtaking views over the River Clyde, the centrepiece of the new restaurant’s vibrant, modern Indian décor is a gigantic eye-catching cowboy and Indian mural featuring key members of the Harlequin empire.
Masala Jak’s is named after Jagpal Singh, an Indian who emigrated to America in the 18th century in search of the American dream and wound up as a chef on a cowboy ranch in the Nevada Desert.
Once the flagship Masala Jak’s restaurant is up and running, Mr Majhu intends to roll-out the brand across the UK over the next 18 months.
