British Asian business man gives £2.3m investment boost to Olympic borough

McDonald’s franchisee, Taimoor Sheikh, is giving the London borough of Greenwich’s economy a £2.3million investment boost in December, with the opening of a brand new Drive-Thru restaurant in Plumstead. The opening will create over 75 new jobs, spanning all levels from crew through to management positions.

McDonald’s Plumstead is Taimoor’s second restaurant acquisition in two years; he already owns the restaurant at Woolwich, famous for being the first McDonald’s Restaurant to open in the UK in 1975. The new restaurant will feature McDonald’s signature new style with a bright and modern interior and exterior design and provide enhanced customer experiences through free WiFi, a new variety of seating options and longer opening hours. The fresh new look complements the transformed menu at McDonald’s, which includes a range of salads, porridge, fruit bags and Rainforest Alliance certified coffee made with organic British milk.

Speaking about his investment Taimoor commented: “At a time when local economies could benefit from a boost, it’s good news that we’ve been able to create around 75 new jobs. I recruit on qualities, not qualifications, so I hope that the roles we’ve made available will appeal to a broad spectrum of people. It’s not just about providing jobs, we invest in every single one of our employees providing great career opportunities through our excellent training programmes, including the Apprenticeship scheme and on-the-job skills development.”

Also on the menu are nationally recognised qualifications in Maths or English which can be gained through McDonald’s online crew lifestyle website, ‘Our Lounge’ – just one of the varied training opportunities offered to McDonald’s employees that help develop transferable skills and qualifications.

Taimoor added: “I hope the community will be delighted with this new look restaurant. We’ve worked hard to provide a relaxing and welcoming environment which will appeal to a broad range of customers from families right through to young professionals. From the modern and comfortable surroundings, to child-friendly seating areas, free WiFi access and increased menu choices, it’s all about providing customers with a great eating out experience.”

The new restaurant located on Pettman Crescent, Plumstead, will host an official opening event on 10 December 2010.
