Edinburgh’s Britannia Spice was named as Restaurant of the Year at the inaugural Irn Bru Scottish Curry Awards on Thurs 13th March at the Thistle Hotel, Glasgow. There were about 3,000 nominations altogether over 8 categories.

Approximately 750 people attended the glittering ceremony in Glasgow, with Celebrity guests from the worlds of Business, Showbiz and Politics including Carol Smillie, Shereen Nanjiani, John Smeaton, Bernard Ponsonby, Lorraine Davidson and Charan Gill. Hosts for the evening were the domestic Indian Goddess Anjum Anand and the UK’s best loved Asian Comedian Jeff Mirza.

Chief Executive Dr Wali Uddin said afterwards: “This a great honour and we’re absolutely thrilled! This is the first time Scotland has organised its own curry awards and it makes me very proud of the industry here and what it has to offer. I am very grateful, and proud of my customers and my staff for putting Britannia Spice in this position.”

The Edinburgh based restaurant has won several notable awards over the last year including a special presentation in January this year, from the British Curry Awards to mark its winning “Best in Scotland” for an unprecedented third year in a row.
