national award winners announced for first south asian fashion and beauty awards

Asian Style Awards made history as the first providers of South Asian fashion and beauty awards were announced on the 1st November 2008

Asian Style Awards created history as the UK’s first awards function for providers of South Asian related fashion and beauty products and services took place on the 1st November 2008, at the Hilton London Metropole, London.
With the change of location, credit crunch and issues of previously changed dates to host the awards, ASA faced many obstacles in hosting the function, however, managed to execute the show and found its first national winners.
The Asian Style Awards have been created to acknowledge the growing South Asian fashion and beauty industry by rewarding successful individuals and companies working within the UK. The glamorous launch of the awards was held in December with Bollywood star Dino Morea and former ‘Eastenders’ and ‘Bad Girls’ actress Nicola Stapleton, along with Pakistani heart-throb and fashion entrepreneur Humayun Saeed. The ASA was one of the most hotly anticipated events of the year.
Once the votes closed, they were passed to a panel of independent judges who were: Imtaz Khaliq, bespoke tailor to celebrities and board member of Skillsfast, the sector skills council for fashion and apparel, Lorraine Onorato, Director of threading training, Gill Morris, Director of HABIA, beauty regulator and skills council for beauty, Paul Shakeshaft, award winning hairdresser, Paul Thandi, CEO of the NEC group. Sital Ladva distributor of Lakme Cosmetics UK.
The night was beautiful and radiant, as the who’s who of the South Asian fashion and beauty industry walked through the East Wing of the Hilton London Metropole, to witness the first and exclusive awards for providers of South Asian related fashion and beauty products and services.
There were many hiccups on the night, but that didn’t stop the entertainment, with excellent performances from NUBEAT charity entertainers all the way from Kenya. Bhangra Niche, newly found bhangra and niche sensations. Not to forget the awesome and striking catwalk from Internationally famous designers Rohit K Verma and Sobia Nazir.
It was a very close and tough competition for our nominees, but the judges decision and the winners were:

BEST HAIRDRESSER: ASSIFF & YVETTE (BIRMINGHAM)
