Designers at Dubai Fashion Week pay tribute to 50 years of Barbie

Celebrating 50 years of Barbie, a fashion icon that has worn more than 105 million yards of fabric and more than 1 billion pairs of the best-heeled shoes, Dubai Fashion Week’s Grand Finale saw 24 designers pay tribute to the doll that launched innumerable fantasies and careers in fashion.

Participating labels were Aiisha Ramadan, Amato, Amber Feroz, Ayesha Depala, Balu Joias, Bow, Das, Dinz, Ekta Singh, Essa, Givori, Grant, Hatem, HSY, Jake and Gigi, Kanzi, Mariam Al Mazro, Riddhima & Meher, Michael Cinco, OTT, Raakhee, Rabia Z, Rima Ashemimry, Salma Khan, Sartori Sartori, Sohad Acouri, Sugar Vintage and Tamsina Designs.
Pink was the obvious preferred color of choice with the show kicking off with a crystal-studded hot pink swimsuit. Middle Eastern influences in the forms of elaborate jalabiyas, harem pants and evening gowns with colored crystals were part of the collection. Single-shouldered gowns in georgette, flare skirts, hot shorts and black glamorous dresses were part of contemporary Barbie’s wardrobe.
Inspiring little girls’ fashion sense at an early age, no Barbie tribute would be complete without the younger ladies and it was so that two little ladies stepped out in black and white dresses, to the delight of the audience.
Dubai Fashion Week came to an end to resounding applause for the Grand Finale, which closed with a surprise burst of confetti on the runway.
