Dawn Butler MP to host African Caribbean women’s networking group at Parliament

Dawn Butler MP to host African Caribbean women

Dawn Butler MP is to host a networking group set up for professional women of African Caribbean origin. The event will take place on Tuesday 25th March from 7p.m. – 9 p.m. at the Houses of Parliament. In attendance will be politicians, senior professional Black women, journalists, government officials and policy think tanks.

‘Sister Circle London’ has been set up to support African Caribbean women on their journey towards roles of influence and responsibility. It is modelled on African-American groups such as the League of Black Women and the Executive Leadership Council. The networking group will host a programme of ‘Sister Talk’ events where members will be able to gain key insights about striving for success from senior professionals from a variety of backgrounds. The forum will also be an opportunity to expand professional horizons and to develop new contacts.

The launch event will include a presentation on the emerging results from a research project ‘100 London Black Women Said’, which gives an insight into the views of professional Black women. The research highlights that Black women are realistic about the barriers which they face when applying for top jobs, but are optimistic about their ability to spot opportunities and manage threats.

Speaking about the formation of the new networking group, Dawn Butler MP commented: “It is a pleasure to be able to host this meeting; there is real requirement for skills and abilities to be recognised by employers. Sharing experiences in a safe environment will empower more women to achieve their goals and know anything is possible.”
