The event has been organized by South Manchester Regeneration Team together with the Stepping Stones into Work project.
The aim of the event is to create awareness about the wide range of information, services and career opportunities available to the diverse communities living in south Manchester. Multilingual leaflets and targeted publicity in the ethnic media will ensure that the message is delivered to many hard-to-reach sections of Manchester’s local communities.
The event will occupy the entire market (on a non-market day). Free stalls will be provided for a large number of statutory and voluntary
organisations with an interest in the social and economic well-being of local residents. These include Council departments, training providers, employers and community organisations. Employment advice and help with CV writing and applications will also be at hand.
Some business support organisations will provide valuable advice on self-employment.
Councillor Sue Murphy, Manchester City Council’s executive member for human
resources, said: ” This event will provide an great opportunity for communities to enjoy direct contact with major employers and to pick up valuable information about local services and training opportunities. This is an excellent example of statutory and private organisations working in partnership to benefit the local community.”
