UK’s Shery makes it to the finals of Pakistan’s X Factor

Shery Hassan, a local to Huddersfield, has made it all the way to the final of the Azme Alishan National Song Competition (NSC) – Pakistan’s version of the X Factor. The episode will be aired on ARY UK on Sunday, 2nd October, 8pm onwards.

Shery was in good musical company as Azme Alishan, a Pakistani social campaign, already has anthems by major stars Atif Aslam and Strings to its name. Talking about his experience, Shery said, “I would like to thank the entire team of Azme Alishan for giving me this unique opportunity. The NSC is more than just a song competition; each contestant supported a charitable cause on the show as well as making an azm (meaning resolve) to bring about a positive change to the lives of those around them.

“As a British Pakistani, I appreciate how important it is to highlight that there is more to Pakistan than what we see in the news. Away from the media headlines, people forget that Pakistan is also a country rich in a diverse culture and heritage. It means a lot to me to promote this other side to Pakistan.” Shery joins a growing number of British Pakistanis who are taking part in Azme Alishan, an awareness campaign which encourages people to use their Pakistani heritage and values to make a positive change in their communities.”

The founder and patron of Azme Alishan, Taher A. Khan, commented, “Azme Alishan is about showing the world what it really means to share in the passion, pride, and generosity of spirit that is the essence of Pakistan. We want Pakistanis all around the world to get involved and show the real spirit of Pakistan.”

Fuzon, Pakistan’s internationally acclaimed rock band, judged the competition this year, and agreed that the standard of entry was excellent. You can also view all the episodes of the National Song Competition here:
