Terryazoome XANA CD LAUNCH for WOMA Trust

Terryazoome XANA CD LAUNCH for WOMA Trust

It’s a moment that nearly didn’t happen – the launch of Terryazoome’s stunning debut XANA on 13th October, as founder/composer Terry Hunt abandoned music for Astrophysics for many years. Happily she’s back with stellar band members, to share a music feast as enjoyable as it is unclassifiable, Greek infused Jazz infused Greek music and more than a taste of Africa in the beautiful purpose built Forge music venue. The launch supports the WOMA Trust and women Africa-wide adversely affected by war, famine or AIDS, with funds for training. £12 advance tickets are at www.bit.ly/SSRUaq

The music Terry Hunt (Guitar, Bouzouki) writes for her bandTERRYAZOOME (which means ‘we click’ in Greek) is loosely tethered to the music of the Greek Diaspora; but in the best jazz tradition, the pieces traverse geographical boundaries, creating a realm without borders – a listening or a dancing pleasure. For this performance to showcase their debut CD,XANA, the virtuoso core group Terry Hunt (Bouzouki, Guitar)Alison Rayner (Bass), Angelos Georgakis (Lead Bouzouki),Diane McLoughlin (Saxes) and Winston Clifford (Drums), are joined by the brilliant Lorraine Jordan (Vocals).
The event is to support the WOMA Trust (World of Music & Arts Assists, a charitable trust made up of a small team experienced in working in Africa helping women who have been widowed, or disadvantaged through war, famine or Aids, by giving small educational grantsto help women gain skills that will help them support themselves and their children. See www.womatrust.org for more information.
Terry Hunt said “I feel it is important to give something back and, as a female led band, I want to link Terryazoome with this vital and well managed cause. Whilst the event is to celebrate my music and my musicians it is also to help women make real changes to improve their lives”
Terry draws on her Greek heritage and growing up in Nigeria taking inspiration from her passions in life and love. A co-founder of pioneer and still revered all women’s band Jam Today in her youth and a listener to all kinds of music she defies genre labels creating sparkling music as reviewer Rich Rainlore of Rainlore’s world of music lyrically declares:
"…. Eight highly enjoyable, laid back – exuberant tracks ..The ensemble playing is nothing short of excellent; while the soloing …is outstanding … subtle, exciting and colourful as anything you are likely to hear … This delightful, beautiful album easily bears repeated listening… I would not want to part with Terryazoome’s XANA and consider it a must have for any world music enthusiast. Jazz lovers should also find it of interest and a delight to listen to."
The Forge music venue is a beautiful purpose built venue where music can be heard and experienced as a pleasure. It too is a community institution and boasts a delicious restaurant menu and an eco wall with solar panels. A dining and music experience can be booked on 020 7383 7808.
