Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt is renowned for creating the Mohan Veena (modified slide guitar), and came to prominence in 1994, winning the Grammy Award for the album “Meeting by the River” along with American Blues Guitarist, Ry Cooder.
Panditji has won international acclaim for the Indianisation of the western slide guitar with his unique assimilation of the techniques of Indian instruments such as sitar, sarod and veena. With blinding speed and faultless legato Panditji is undoubtedly one of the greatest slide players in the world today.
In this concert he will be accompanied by his son Salil Bhatt on the Satvik Veena (a variation of the Mohan Veena) and Sanju Sahai (son of the legendary Pandit Sharda Sahai) on the Tabla.
This is a rare opportunity to see and hear him, as he is travelling to the UK exclusively to launch NoteAsia and this is the only concert of Panditji in UK this year.
‘I am very happy to see Anand, my student in London taking up the cause of spreading classical music in UK – I am looking forward to performing at the NoteAsia launch concert’ – Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt
NoteAsia is supporting Alzheimer’s Society UK through this event.
‘I have a single line mission statement – “Bringing classical music to your home and hearts”. Have started NoteAsia as a movement to fuel exponential growth in classical music appreciation through our events and community integration projects’- Anand Sundaram, Founder, NoteAsia
