Ft: LINDA LEWIS, MADELINE BELL, CYMANDE, HAMISH STUART, GONZALEZ, CAROL GRIMES and ROOT JACKSON
A unique tour providing a rare chance to catch some of the greatest names in 1970s British soul and funk together on one stage following the BBC TV series Soul Britannia.
Throughout the ’70s, many British musicians took influences from U.S. black music pioneers to create a sound that was uniquely their own. Rock, blues, jazz and African players rubbed shoulders in a thriving live scene across the country’s pubs and clubs. Prolific artists like Average White Band and Joe Cocker achieved international success whilst others gained cult status through a handful of recordings on small labels. Their inspiration fuelled later generations, from the wave of ’80s Brit-funk bands to today’s DJs and producers eager to sample and revive their music.
Soul Britannia All-Stars brings together a stellar cast to celebrate the huge diversity of sounds emerging from the UK during the ’70s. The unmistakeable vocals of Linda Lewis and Blue Mink’s Madeline Bell feature alongside the powerhouse grooves of Gonzalez and the yearning blues of Carol Grimes. The show also brings together original members of Caribbean Brixton funk band Cymande, now playing together for the first time in over 20 years. An unmissable event for all lovers of real soul music.
