Roots of India @ ignite, Royal Albert Hall’s free lively lunchtime series

This summer, the Royal Albert Hall introduces the third season of its free lively lunchtime music series, ignite, offering a wide range of styles to suit all musical tastes in the relaxed atmosphere of the Café Consort on most Fridays from June to August, 12 noon to 1.30pm.

Roots of India are north Indian classical musicians and, apart from the percussion accompaniment, all play stringed instruments. On the Sarangi the strings are bowed, on the Santoor they are struck and on the Sarode they are plucked. Each instrument has its own language and uses it to explore the Raga, and yet the radically different nuances and tones of the instruments merge to form one melodic line.
