Nsimba Foggis & Taxi Pata Pata are West London’s favourite band and so much emanates from them! They spearheaded UK based soukous from the 80’s and they were the 1st UK based band to have a BBC Radio1 session and also won a Golden Rose award for best music in a collaboration alongside John Peel. They rightly earned the accolade Britain’s Best African Band from pundits such as Andy Kershaw and Charlie Gillett (RIP). Now they will receive a Best of British Award at this event.
On being told of the intended award presentation Nsimba Foggis said “I had no idea that we are held in such esteem and I am delighted with this news. We are rehearsing vigourously and will play tasters from our forthcoming new album as well as people’s favourites like ‘Debo’ and ‘Ma-Kumba'”
Nsimba Foggis, dubbed the Soukous Maestro, & Taxi Pata Pata play that wonderful uplifting music from the Congo (DRC) – rippling liquid guitars, punchy horns, rappattack drums, serious moves topped with the sweetest vocals: Taxi Pata Pata combine the beat of the bush with the heat of the city (NME) : Quite simply Britain’s best African Band. Dancez! Dancez! Newer Congolese bands in London regularly play covers of Nsimba Foggis’s music and now there is a great West London opportunity to check out the music from the source.
The legendary Safroman, soukous’s best guitarist also known as the High Priest is joining the band as guitarist – so it’s The Soukous Maestro vs The High Priest of Soukous with another legend Mongoley on guitar as well- a splendid night – essential. Only thing is come early as it has to finish by 11pm. Dress Code: Simply wear your dancing shoes!
DJS on the night will be the best African and global dance spinners DJ WALA (Limpopo Club – the DON), Mr K (Charlie Wrights) and DJ Debbie (Outerglobe/Resonance/Passing Clouds) playing a very fine mix to keep the dancefloor full between sets.
