Aqui entertainment & Afterdark promotions presents AFRO-POP LIVE featuring Nigerian songstress Nneka at London’s ULU on March 17th.
Nneka is a native of Warri, a town in the Delta region of Nigeria and currently residence in Hamburg, Germany. Nneka is a unique and enjoyable artist with great songs. Her voice strikes an eerie balance between rage and pain which mirrors the abrasion of two continents, Europe and Africa, delivered with conviction. Her new single ‘God of Mercy’ stands out as much for DJ Farhot’s production as Nneka’s expressive soulful vocals and should make it a top tune on radio playlists this year. Despite her Nigerian background, Nneka’s sound is strongly connected with her European journey. Nneka most recently supported Gnarls Barkley.
AFRO-POP LIVE: a new revolution in the urban experience spawned from Mother Africa. Like other urban genres before it such as “Crunk” music from the dirty South USA and “Reggaeton” the sound of Puerto-Rico. AFRO-POP LIVE is steeped in explosive sounds of afrorockhighlifebeatjujupopfujiraggaesoulful melodies with a punk attitude. The sound simply crosses boundaries.
This event is a fusion of homegrown and Diaspora based talent simply raises awareness of African pop culture by providing a platform to showcase such repertoire in a strong and evocative manner.
