In an industry where fickle item numbers and Hindi remixes rule the Indian charts for a few transitory weeks before disappearing, Rangeele is a refreshing change.
A collection of songs with true staying power, they confirm Kailash Kher’s position as one of India’s most unique music talents and creator of music with substance.
“Music isn’t just about shallow entertainment. It’s about depth, enlightenment and bringing hope and happiness to humanity.” – Kailash Kher.
Rangeele, Kailash’s fourth album in conjunction with his band Kailasa, boasts eleven original tracks that are about discovering love from different perspectives. The album has been produced by Kailasa’s founder members, Paresh and Naresh Kamath and penned and composed by Kailash at the Kailasa studios Mumbai.
Rangeele was released on January 10th, 2012 by the august hands of Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan with a scintillating live performance by Kailash Kher and his band Kailasa at Novotel, Juhu.
The launch event was organised by Saregama India and attended by luminaries from the Indian music world, including playback singers and composers including Anu Malik, Sonu Niigaam, Shankar Mahadevan, Hariharan, Mahalakshmi Iyer and Hard Kaur.
“Rangeele is my accolade to love in all its forms, be it longing, passion, patriotism, devotion or even hatred. This album is extremely special for me for various reasons. Among the most powerful being that the artists featuring in this album also include the unbelievable Mr Amitabh Bachchan. It also features my two-year-old son Kabir and is our record label, Kailasa Records, first album. Rangeele is also my gratitude to all my listeners since this is a reflection of my observation of my fans through my eight year career journey. I have tried to reciprocate the love and goodness they have extended to me and my band. Rangeele is like a canvas for my music. Listeners will enjoy and fill in the colours of their own expressions. But I know that everyone who hears Rangeele will have some songs that they will feel are their own." – Kailash Kher
Kailash’s music is a genre in itself, with smash hits in the past like ‘Teri Deewani’, ‘Allah ke Banday’ and ‘Saiyyaan’, that has created the trend of soulful music with elements of Sufi, folk and traditional music in contemporary form. Kailash is considered one of India’s best live performers of today and his band Kailasa is among the most respected Indian bands, globally.
A politically aware artist, Kailash recently wrote and performed the song ‘Ambar Tak Yehi Naad Goonjege’ in support of Anna Hazare’s fight against corruption in India.
Rangeele includes a two minute narration by legendary Indian actor Amitabh Bachchan. Best known for his commanding baritone voice, he features in the song ‘Dharti Pe Jannat Ka Nazara’. Other highlights include a vocal contribution from Kailash’s toddler son Kabir in ‘Samvaad (Hudkaan Maan Bitti)’, who looks destined to follow in his father’s footsteps.
Along with the music album, Kailasa Records has also created videos for the tracks, ‘Rangeele’ (a story of reaching out and achieving what you desire in life portrayed through the journey of a song), ‘Tu Kya Jaane’ (a story of love, in its endless forms) and ‘Yaada Teriyaan’ (discovering love from different perspectives). Videos of other songs are in currently in production with the record label planning to have at least nine for this album.
One music video is planned with a unique approach, whereby students of journalism and media across India will be invited to make a video for the selected track, which will be uploaded on Kailash’s YouTube channel and the winner selected democratically through online likes/hits.
“Kailash Kher and his band Kailasa have created a huge fan base across the world and charmed them with their unique ability to marry traditional sufi ballad and folks styles with innovative contemporary compositions. Saregama is proud to partner with them on the release of Rangeele and guarantee it will bring listeners much pleasure. We also look forward to hearing the songs from the new album being performed live during Kailash’s highly anticipated forthcoming UK tour in April 2012.” – Amarpal Singh Gaind, Saregama PLC, Head of Operations – Europe.
