‘Indo Afro String Concert’

London Sitar Ensemble presents a unique ‘Indo Afro String’ Concert at the Purcell Room, Southbank on 10th February, 2008 at 19.45hrs. This is a cross cultural collaboration between Indian Sitars and West African Kora. Directed by Sanjay Guha , a disciple of Pandit Ravi Shanker. Also featuring multi talented Kora player, song writer, producer, composer Tunde Jegede together with Maya Jobarteh (Guitar), Juldah Camara (Ritti), Kousic Sen and Saleel Tambe on Tabla. The classical and folk compositions of the Sitar blend with the complex, delicate, swinging compositions of the Kora.

London Sitar Ensemble is a lively new ensemble of sitar artists established under Sanjay Guha, a Fellow of Trinity College of Music. It presents innovative programmes featuring best of sitar compositions and arrangements of the Ravi Shanker Style. Its aim is to bring the magic of classsical traditions of Indian music to a wider audience. The group is a recipient of the PRS Foundation (for new music) Performance Group Award of 2007. Past performances inclue V & A Museum, National Army Museum, London Mela, Nehru Centre, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. Forthcoming events apart from the Purcell Room (Southbank) include Horniman Museum (16th March) and the Llangollen International Music Festival, Eisteddfodd (9th July)
