EMI TV, an integral division of EMI Music, is best known for producing the biggest selling compilation series ever, Now!, which has sold over 77 million copies in the UK and Eire since 1983. This new move comes as the Indian film industry continues to grow and make its mark in the UK Box Office charts on a regular basis.
The album, produced in collaboration with EMI records, is due to go on sale on 25th October and includes a unique selection of tracks from the most successful film industry in the world.
EMI TV commented: “We’re very pleased to announce this foray into the world of Bollywood and to be working with BBC Asian Network’s Raj and Pablo. The Indian film industry has a very special relationship with music, as the soundtrack is often integral to the success or failure of a movie. The popularity of Bollywood music has grown incredibly and we know this album will appeal to a wide audience, but with over a thousand films being released every year, Raj & Pablo had a lot to choose from, we could not have released a Bollywood compilation without some serious expertise!”
BBC Asian Network radio presenters Raj&Pablo, who have successfully established themselves in the industry, have handpicked the songs that are featured on the album.
As well as presenting the BBC Asian Network’s ‘Love Bollywood’ show, the pair has played a major role in opening the doors of Bollywood to mainstream audiences. They host a glamorous Bollywood night every month at the Cobden Club, and take part in numerous activities including hosting events and DJ-ing, acting, singing and entertaining. They have also hosted Bollywood events at Selfridges and their radio show was recently selected in the Independent’s Radio Choice section.
Husain Husaini, Head of Programmes, BBC Asian Network, says: “The BBC Asian Network loves Bollywood and more and more people are discovering why. The industry creates some of the most beautiful tunes in the world, played and sung by some of the finest artists. We believe that any lover of popular music will find something here to entertain and delight them and we are glad we can play our part in bringing this music to a wider audience.”
The album will be released in the UK and Ireland on Monday 25th October.
