Piu trained with her father Sri Kamal Bandopadhyay, who was a disciple of Ustad Amir Khan, for more than 21 years. Piu is one of the very rare persons who sings in the style of Ustad Amir Khan and to have been personally close to him through her father.
Piu has a wonderful vocal technique as well as lovely voice – allowing her to sing stunning fast tans (an improvised vocal musical phrase) with a command over sargam (solfege) and taal (rhythm cycle).
Tabla players, Akbar and Babar, are the highly talented sons of the great master of the Delhi Gharana of tabla, the late Ustad Latif Ahmed Khan.
They have recently delighted audiences in London with their virtuosity and youthful freshness, while performing at the BBC Proms, Indian Voices Day.
Harmonium player Ustad Fida Hussain Khan will accompany the Trio.
