The Veteran - Adi Bielski shoots from the hip in new British movie.

The Veteran, the latest gripping offering from Revolver Entertainment (The Infidel, Shank, Anuvahood) tackles the issues of violence, drugs and gang culture on London’s streets. Starring Toby Kebbell, Brian Cox and Ashley Thomas, the film is released nationwide on April 29th.

The Veteran tells the powerful story of retired soldier Robert Miller (Toby Kebbell), returning home from Afghanistan. Living on a violent council estate and finding work in undercover surveillance, he becomes obsessed with taking down a group of local gangsters who are intrinsically tied to a suspected terrorist cell, where Adi Bielski (Alayna) is linked. Soon the relationship between Alayna and Miller develops into a delicate human story existing inside a war-zone.
Written and directed by Matthew Hope, the film stars the award winning and BAFTA-nominated Toby Kebbell in a career-defining performance as Miller. The film also stars multiple award-winner Brian Cox, popular urban grime artist Ashley Thomas in a tough and impressive performance and also features Israel’s leading theatre actress Adi Bielski.

Adi Bielski who plays Alayna, was born in Jerusalem to a South African mother and an Israeli father. Her father, Zeev Bielski is a member of the Israeli parliament and Adi spent two and a half years in the Israeli military performing her national service where she became an officer.

Her acting breakthrough came with a number of acclaimed Israeli theatre productions including It Runs In The Family, the comedy festival at the Habima Theatre and Alma and Ruth, culminating in a Best Actress, Fringe award in 2008.

Commenting on her character, Adi says:

“She’s interesting because she comes from a lot of different angles. There’s nothing simple about Alayna. She comes from two worlds: her homeland is Lebanon, she was born in a refugee camp and her parents were doctors and they were murdered by someone they gave medical treatment to.

It’s very interesting and I think Alayna finds herself in quite an impossible situation. She’s
working with the Muslims, the terrorists and the English government. In the beginning you think she’s with the bad people, then you realise she’s trapped, she’s scared and she wants out.”

A captivating and insightful portrayal of life after war, The Veteran is a thrilling insight into the mind of a man who refuses to back down.
