London, 24th February 2007: Excitement for the long awaited IIFA Weekend in Yorkshire, June 2007 began today with the IIFA Brand Ambassador Mr. Amitabh Bachchan casting the first vote by the film industry for the nominations of the Idea IIFA Awards 2007. The Industry Voting for the Idea IIFA Awards Nominations would be open from 24th to 26th February 2007. During the weekend, industry stalwarts, actors, directors, producers, technicians, composers and behind the scenes communities are expected to cast their votes, which would decide the nominations for the main awards.
Mr. Amitabh Bachchan was delighted to be at the event. Speaking on the occasion he said, “IIFA has a truly credible voting process that is closely and diligently audited by PriceWaterHouse Coopers, the same agency that audits the Hollywood’s Academy Awards. The reason that the IIFAs have come to be regarded as a unique and most credible event of the Indian film industry is mainly because of the procedures and the confidentiality involved in nominating and awarding the winners. International guidelines are followed to arrive at the results, which are only revealed on the IIFA Awards night.”
The IIFA Voting process is a stringent and very methodical procedure that is closely monitored by PriceWaterHouse Coopers, the official auditors for the event. To begin with, the Industry is invited to cast their votes and shortlist the five nominations in the Category of the Popular Awards. These five nominations are then released to the audience at large, across the world. With our partners MSN.com, the audience is encouraged to vote on the website. PriceWaterHouse Coopers is responsible to collate the votes. The final winners of the Idea IIFA Awards are revealed by PriceWaterHouse Coopers only on the night of the Awards ceremony when the envelope is opened on stage, in front of the live audience. The results are kept secret and credibility of the voting process is one of the key parameters of this prestigious award.

The IIFA Weekend Yorkshire is being supported by the region’s stakeholders Yorkshire Forward, Yorkshire Tourist Board and Yorkshire Culture.
The Idea IIFA Awards is broadcast on the Star Television network and the final presentation night with the exciting programming that has been created around it will reach global viewers this June.
