DocHouse Presents: NEW LIFE OF A FAMILY ALBUM + Q&A

After his father leaves to start a new life, filmmaker Adam Ol’ha starts mapping his parents’ relationship and the impact of their split. Adam’s personal memoir, drawing on decades of home movies, is gorgeously crafted, resonating with questions on the nature of family and love.

Czech Filmmaker Adam Ol’ha was as shocked as the rest of his family when their father recently decided to abandon their mother for another woman. Observing this dramatic upheaval as both insider and outsider Ol’ha starts mapping his parents’ relationship and the impact of their split on himself and his five sisters.

Drawing on decades of home movies and family photo albums Adam looks closely at the idyllic life the images depict, of an accomplished theatre director, a successful Slovenian actress and their ever growing brood of children. Against this he compares the present day situation he, his mother and his sisters find themselves in, and as he unpicks the sentimental archive he is forced to see the cracks that may have surfaced long ago.

A beautifully crafted and deeply contemplative personal memoir, NEW LIFE OF A FAMILY ALBUM also resonates with universal questions on the nature of family, love and the complexity of human relationships.

Director Adam Ol’ha will join us for a post-screening Q&A.
