The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) and Screen WM are proud to announce BAFTA GOES BOLLYWOOD ON TOUR in partnership with Mela ’06. The weekend, which will take place at the Bollywood Stage, National Exhibition Centre (NEC), Birmingham from Friday 17th-Sunday 19th November, 10am-7pm will feature film screenings, exclusive live interviews with top stars Ajay Devgan, Kajol and Saif Ali Khan, as well as clips from their biggest hits.
Ajay Devgan’s intensity as an anti-hero set him apart from many male stars of the 90s. His debut role was in 1991’s action packed Phool Aur Kaante (Rose and Thorns). His versatility continued in films that tackled social and controversial issues such as 2002’s The Legend of Bhagat Singh and he recently received critical praise for his leading role as Othello in Omkara (2006). He married Kajol in 1999, who is incidentally one of Indian cinema’s most popular actresses with legions of fans worldwide. Since her role in 1995’s Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (Brave- Heart will take the Bride), her career has soared with blockbusters such as 2001’s Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (Sometimes Happiness, Sometimes Sorrow) and 2006’s Fanaa (Destroyed In Love).
Saif Ali Khan’s film career rocketed after the 2001 cult hit Dil Chahta Hai (Do Your Thing) and further hits such as 2005’s Salaam Namaste (Hi: Hello) established him as one of Bollywood’s most bankable stars and recently received strong critical acclaim, alongside fellow co-star Ajay Devgan, for his performance this year in Omkara.
Highlights of the weekend will include screenings of recent Bafta goes Bollywood interviews with (actor/producer) Shah Rukh Khan, (director/producer) Yash Chopra who was honoured by Bafta earlier this year, (actor/producer) Aamir Khan, (filmmaker) Karan Johar and (actress) Preity Zinta. Interviews and Q&A sessions over the 3 day event will be held with husband and wife actor Ajay Devgan and actress Kajol and actor Saif Ali Khan, conducted by Nasreen Munni Kabir, Cary Rajinder Sawhney, Pratibha Parmar and Waheed Khan.
