Having initially being cast in an array of action led films which won him huge acclaim and the repute of being the Bruce Lee of India, in a decisive turn to eschew his label as only an action hero, Akshay in recent years has diversified his cinematic portfolio to star in a string of hits across romantic (Dil To Pagal Hai, 1997), dramatic (Waqt: The Race Against Time, 2005) and comic (Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, 2006) film genres.
In riding on his wave of successes within the comedy film genre with films such as Phir Hera Phir (2006), Garam Masala (2005) and Jaan-e-Mann (2006), Akshay now stars in Bhagam Bhag directed by Priyadarshan which is expected to be India’s biggest comic capers of the year. Bhagam Bhag features a list of esteemed stars including Govinda which makes his film comeback, Lara Dutta, Paresh Rawal, Jackie Shroff, Rajpal Yadav and Arbaaz Khan.
Akshay performs the character of a budding actor (Bunty) in a small town theatre group in Mumbai spearheaded by Champak Chaturved (Paresh Rawal). The characters of Bunty and his colleague Baabla (Govinda) also an aspiring actor are peppered with naughty and natured streaks and at the completion of one show in Mumbai, an organiser offers Champak’s group to perform 30 shows in the UK. They all get very excited but as per the contract they need to leave for the UK on the same day. Unfortunately the heroine of the play opts out due to Bunty’s misbehavior and the Champak Chaturved is left with no girl lead for his shows in the UK!
Through Rajpal Yadav, a taxi driver from the UK, Bunty and Baabla try to find the heroine for the play which leads to a series of misunderstandings and comic sequences. In search of a heroine they find heroin and then begins Bhagam Bhag. The trio discovers a girl (Lara Dutta), to act in their drama and just as Bunty and Lara fall in love, her memory returns and it brings chaos into their lives, including a murdered husband!

From here the story leads to its climax in which a major conspiracy is exposed with Bunty, Baabla and Champak Chaturved being embroiled deeper into the calamity.
