The God of Manga

The God of Manga

Osamu Tezuka was a multi-tasking genius, a one-man media factory whose output was phenomenal. Known as ‘the God of Manga’ to four generations of fans, he was also the father of the modern anime industry, and the creator of working methods and assumptions still in use in the comics and animation business. Helen McCarthy, author of ‘The Art of Osamu Tezuka: God of Manga’, highlights the less well-known aspects of his life and work, showing why a comic artist who died 20 years ago is still a role model for 21st-century creatives and celebrities.

Helen McCarthy is an author and film specialist. She curated the first Osamu Tezuka Film Festival at London’s Barbican Centre and is developing a documentary film about his life and work.
