The Asia House Festival of Asian Literature

The Asia House Festival of Asian Literature celebrates the newest and best writing on Asia in a series of talks and discussions. Focusing on Asian and non-Asian authors writing about Asia, the programme covers a broad spectrum of fiction and non-fiction from a selection of Asian countries.

Over the past 25 years, India has moved from a largely impoverished, underdeveloped country to a bustling, innovative, fast-changing society. This book shows how and why.

Shashi Tharoor, former Under-Secretary General of the UN and one of India’s most respected writers and diplomats, describes the vast changes that have recently taken place to turn this once sleeping giant into one of the world leaders in the realms of science and technology. Dividing his study into five parts-politics, economy, culture, society, and sports-he analyzes and discusses all the pros and cons of this rapidly evolving world. Artfully combining hard facts and statistics with personal opinions and observations, Tharoor offers a fresh, insightful look at the world’s second largest country.
