Spirit of Womanhood Exhibition

Spirit of Womanhood Exhibition

Spirit of Womanhood is an exhibition to mark the 10th anniversary of Women’s Interfaith Network, with the support of Tracey Emin, CBE and Cherie Blair, CBE. The Exhibition will mark the 10-year anniversary of Women’s Interfaith Network (WIN), founded by Pinky Lilani, OBE and Lady Gilda Levy.

Spirit of Womanhood, a one-off exhibition of work by female artists, will take place at gallery@oxo on London’s South Bank from 20th – 30th March 2014. Marking the 10th anniversary of the Women’s Interfaith Network, and in conjunction with International Women’s Day on 8th March 2014, the exhibition seeks to re-present and reinvigorate global interfaith dialogue and debates concerning its place within the artistic sphere.

The exhibition will showcase the work of female artists selected by a judging panel of leading figures from the contemporary art world, including Roxane Zand, Deputy Chairman of Islamic and Middle Eastern Art at Sotheby’s, Dr. Amy Mechowski, Curator at the Victoria & Albert Museum, Andrew Gwilliams, White Cube Gallery and Len Massey, Drawing Tutor at the Royal College of Art.

In its 10th anniversary year, the Spirit of Womanhood exhibition is intended to embody the spirit and values of the Women’s Interfaith Network. Founded in 2004 by Pinky Liliani OBE and Lady Gilda Levy, WIN is an organisation committed to promoting understanding and sustainable dialogue between women of different faiths across the UK. Composed of women from a range of backgrounds, members are united by the common goal of building a more respectful and inclusive society. Education programmes, workshops and a talk series co-ordinated by WIN aim to stimulate cross-community interaction, encourage women to develop skills and self-confidence and explore the barriers that may otherwise inhibit them from pursuing their goals.

Presenting participating artists’ personal interpretations of the show’s title, the exhibition features a broad selection of media including painting and drawing, sculpture, photography and ceramics. Submissions were sought from artists across a range of faith and non-faith affiliations.
