KEBAB, by Romanian playwright Gianina Carbunariu, will open in the Jerwood Theatre Upstairs at the Royal Court on 23 October 2007, as part of the theatre’s Autumn International Playwrights season. Directed by Orla O’Loughlin, the production’s full cast and creative team are still to be announced.

Leaving Romania to pursue a career in showbusiness, Madalina finds herself working in a Dublin kebab shop. Fortunately her boyfriend has a better prospect. She’ll be broadcast across the world and watched by thousands. It’s a new start and surely things will never be as bad as back home.

Kebab explores some of the harsher realities of immigration and what people are willing to give up in the hope of a better life.

Kebab is a co-production with Dublin Theatre Festival and Pentabus Theatre Company.

Orla O’Loughlin was appointed Artistic Director of Pentabus Theatre Company in 2006, moving from the Royal Court Theatre where she was the International Associate.
