New Asian female sketch duo to debut at Brighton Fringe

Sketch duo Asian Provocateurs ( are comedy writers and performers Sajeela Kershi and Yasmeen Khan. Working together for the first time, they are debuting their work-in-progress sketch show at Brighton Festival Fringe in a show that will see them cover everything from religious extremism to the BNP and TV show spoofs.

Sajeela Kershi has been a stand-up comedian on the comedy circuit since 2006 and has performed at festivals including Edinburgh, Glasgow and Montreal Just For Laughs. Within the industry she is probably best-known for starring in Brendan Burns’ controversial If.Comedy Award winning show, ‘So I Suppose This is Offensive Now’. Sajeela is resident MC at her own award winning comedy club night in Redhill, Surrey, ‘Comedy at the Cottage’ and has appeared in ITV’s Comedy Cuts. She will also be performing her Edinburgh solo show, ‘Bitch Got Owned’ at Brighton this year.

Yasmeen Khan is also a radio broadcaster and journalist. She has presented several documentaries on BBC Radio 4, including ‘That’s No Job for an Asian!’, a look at the current crop of British Asian comics. She has more Radio 4 programmes forthcoming in 2010, looking at both British Asian and ‘mainstream’ topics. Yasmeen is also a presenter on the BBC Asian Network and a regular voice on LBC radio. She has previously devised and performed comedy sketches as part of the MUJU theatre company, with whom she will also be performing at Brighton Fringe this year. She also recently performed with the Tamasha theatre company and Rikki Beadle Blair’s Team Angelica company at the Tristan Bates Theatre.

With media spoofs, original characters and cross-cultural comedy, Asian Provocateurs’ work-in-progress debut aims to be the perfect recipe for audiences of all backgrounds.
Take two comedians, add a pinch of comedy sketch gold, a dash of satire and a drizzle of PC sauce. Topped with organic crushed stereotypes and serve to a clued-up Fringe crowd.
