Mother India 21st Century Remix

KALA PHOOL and The Drum presents:
Mother India 21st Century Remix

An extraordinary film, an extraordinary re-imagining.

Kala Phool presents MI21 Remix in all its splendour for a prestigious launch at The Drum on Sat 2 Aug, 7:30PM, before they embark on their national tour. MI21 is a dynamic live audio/visual project to re-score and re-visualize Mother India the groundbreaking film embedded in Indian cinematic history.

Winner of the Oscar for best Foreign Film in 1957, this profoundly influential film -Mother India came to symbolise the post-colonial Indian psyche interpreted through the ambitions, struggles, compassion and sheer will to survive demonstrated by the ‘central’ Mother character Radha played by the late, iconic screen legend Nargis.

Profoundly influential, Mother India was lauded for its stunning cinematography, indelible soundtrack and powerfully dramatic storyline. KALA PHOOL has brought the film together with one of the world’d leading Turntable supremos and electronic composers; British Asian DJ Tigerstyle to re-interpret the score through a unique live electronic performance to commemorate India and Pakistan’s independence – Aug 15/Aug 14 respectively. DJ Tigerstyle uses turntables and electronics, accompanied by the prodigious talents of talents of cellist, Matt Constantine and dynamic drummer David Shaw, to present the film for a contemporary audience. Experimental, yet true to the source, the film has been specially re-cut and remixed exclusively for this performance.
